Phoenix French Roaster
Production drums, Paris, France.
History
When SAMIAC closes in 2009, one of its technicians, Rodrigue Santerre, creates Torréfaction Services to install, repair and upgrade the French fleet, with temperature curves and touchscreens added after the fact. The company is entered in the registry on October 30, 2015, rue d'Anjou in Paris, six to nine employees. Then he builds his first 15 kg roaster, presented at the roasting show in Nantes on a September 18 and 19 whose year is written nowhere, and launches the Phoenix French Roaster brand, whose copyright says 2018.
The brand claims Laurent Baysse, of the Brûlerie du Cantin in Lens, French roasting champion 2021, on a Phoenix 15 kg gas. As of September 18, 2026, the company is active in the registry, but the brand's site has not responded since a date between September 2025 and September 2026: the real state of manufacturing deserves a phone call before buying.
What it makes
Electric or gas drums with regulation announced to the tenth of a degree, independent variation of exhaust speed and drum rotation, and hot-air chaff collector. The exact heating principle of the gas models is not published.
The models
- Phoenix 600 g: electric, charcoal filter
- 5 kg: 14 kW electric or 13 kW modulating gas
- 15 kg: 27 kW or 29 kW
- 30 kg: 42 kW or 39 kW
- 70 kg: 70 kW gas, 15-inch screen
A 120 kg model mentioned by a search engine does not exist in the documentation
What you gain
The strong point is not the drum, about which the company says nothing, but the control: exhaust and rotation set separately, that is, dosing convection and conduction during the roast; three curves displayed, drum, exhaust and rate of rise, the one specialty watches first. Exactly what the SAMIACs lacked. And French after-sales service in 24 to 48 hours, which for a roastery weighs more than the fineness of the drum.
What you lose
The heating principle is not published: a buyer does not know whether they are buying a direct flame or indirect heating. On the 600 g, the manufacturer itself writes that the filter treats “toxic fumes, but not odors,” which does not settle the neighborhood. No afterburner appears for the larger models. And a brand carried by six to nine people, whose site is out of service, presents a continuity risk before a heavy investment.
