Trabattoni
Production drums, Lecco, Italy.
History
More than a century and three family names, Farina, then Trabattoni, then Nigra: founded in 1910, the Lecco company is today Impianti Torrefazione Trabattoni S.n.c. di Nigra Mario & C., family-run and independent. “We are people and a family before being a company,” it told Comunicaffè in 2022, the year it launched its ITT Roaster software to control a modulating burner.
Its distinguishing feature is rare: double-cylinder machines, in cast iron and refractory brick, fueled by gas, wood or pellets.
What it makes
Double-cylinder drums, cast iron and refractory brick, on gas, wood or pellets, with in-house software; two industrial mills.
The models
- 10 and 15 kg: ITT Simplyroaster
- 30: 60, 120, 180, 240 kg (ITT Roaster
- mills of 150 and 300 kg/h
What you gain
Cast iron, brick and double cylinder: a great mass, slow to rise but very stable, which absorbs a cold charge and forgives approximation. Wood and pellets are a real differentiator, a renewable fuel and a profile sought by some artisans.
What you lose
A wood or pellet fire is much harder to modulate than a gas burner, which explains the development of the software; the inertia that protects also prevents quick corrections; and biomass raises particulate questions that gas does not.
