Discaf
Production drums, Sabadell (Barcelona), Spain.
History
“Desde 1987,” in Sabadell: an active Catalan firm, which announces new products in March and April 2026 and its presence at the Madrid Coffee Fest. The milestones between 1987 and 2026 are not published.
Its technical argument tackles a real and rarely addressed problem: a roaster's draft drifts when the chimney clogs with chaff, when the weather changes, or when you go from a half load to a full load. Discaf regulates the airflow continuously according to the volume of coffee, the state of the chimney and atmospheric pressure, “so that the same mass of air always passes through the coffee.” And an Iberian specialty: machines dedicated to torrefacto, the style of roasting in which sugar is added at the end of the roast, caramelizing and sticking to the beans.
What it makes
Double-chamber drums, a “truly modulating” burner, automatic air control, Siemens PLC, manual, semi-automatic and automatic modes; hot-air recovery on the TN-60 and TN-120.
The models
- Specialty: TN-1
- TN-2 PRO: up to 3 kg
- TN-6 PRO: up to 8 kg
- TN-12 PRO. Industrial models, natural coffee: TN-20 PRO
- TN-60
- TN-120
- TN-180
- TN-300
- dedicated torrefacto range. Note: at Discaf
- the model number is lower than the actual load
- and the industrial capacities are not published openly
What you gain
Automatically compensating for draft drift makes a given profile reproducible from one day to the next. A truly modulating burner allows gentle ramps at the end of the roast, where development is decided, whereas an on/off burner has only two states.
What you lose
Recycling laden gases requires regular maintenance. The industrial documentation is incomplete, with a naming inconsistency between TN-20 PRO and TN-30 on the site itself.
