Garanti Roasters
Production drums, Kemalpaşa (Izmir), Turkey.
History
Not to be confused with Has Garanti, another Kemalpaşa company founded in 1954: two addresses, two websites, two families, and a possible link between them that nothing establishes. A search engine queried on this point stated with confidence that it was the same company; that is false.
Mustafa Umsu founded the company in 1951; Süleyman Umsu joined in 1993, and the third generation, Sinem and Can Umsu, handles quality, sales and research. In July 2022, the Focha, a six-kilo machine in a vertical format, won the SCA Best New Product Award at World of Coffee in Milan, in the roasting equipment category; it was put on the market on August 15, 2022 at 19,000 dollars ex-works. iF Design Award and a new Best New Product in 2024.
What it makes
Gas or electric drums, explicitly offered in two modes in the catalog, “direct heating” or “heat transfer”; on the Focha, doubled insulation, a single duct for hot air and cold air, 3 mm thermocouples, GRS profile system. Artisan and Modbus.
The models
- Pacifica 2E: 2G, 5E, 5G, 12 (manual
- Focha: 6 kg, by profile
- Atlantica: 20, 30, 60 (automation only
Usta cocoa roasters, Ultimo grinders
What you gain
A professional jury prize, the one in Milan, concerns the design. Offering in a single catalog both the liveliness of direct flame and the gentleness of indirect heat is rare, and leaves the choice. The single duct simplifies hookup in a shop, where routing the ductwork is the dominant constraint.
What you lose
A single circuit leaves less latitude to decouple the roasting airflow from the cooling airflow. The Atlantica exist only in automatic, with no manual variant. The training campus announced for 2023 could not be verified.
