Coffee-Tech Engineering
Production drums, Matsli'ah, Israel.
History
Founded by Ram Evgi, the firm says “more than three decades,” which would place its beginnings in the first half of the 1990s, but publishes no year: this is exactly the case where a commercial page suggests seniority without proving it. The head office is in Matsli'ah, and not in Tel Aviv as resellers write.
The distinctive point is the infrared drum: high-temperature metal heating elements that radiate, combined with convection, conduction and a thermosiphon effect. The 2 kg Solar Eco, launched in 2006, is its best-known application, and first-generation machines are still in service. Above 7 kg, everything runs on gas, and a variant of the Ghibli runs on wood, which is rare. More than 2,000 machines installed and more than 120 countries claimed; an in-house coffee laboratory and a free training center at the factory, documented by the Israeli press in August 2025.
What it makes
Infrared electric roasters from 0.1 to 7 kg, gas drums from 15 to 90 kg, a wood-fired variant, and the Avirnaki, a fume removal system that makes it possible to roast without an exhaust duct.
The models
- Solar Eco: 2 kg, electric, 2006
- FZ94 Evo: 0.1 to 2.4 kg
- Stingray e7: 1 to 7 kg, electric
- Silon ZR7: 1 to 7 kg, gas
- Ghibli R15: R30, R60, R90 (3 to 90 kg, gas), Ghibli R15 Firewood, wood-fired
The 1 kg “Torrefattore” model has been discontinued
What you gain
Infrared heats by radiation, at a distance: on an electric machine, it is the way to reach a high power density without a hot spot on the wall, the flaw of the sheathed resistance. The automation of the Solar Eco is aimed at the shop without a trained roaster. And the Avirnaki solves a real and costly problem: in many urban leases, the impossibility of drilling an exhaust is what forbids roasting on site.
What you lose
Radiation heats what it sees; its efficiency drops as the bed of beans thickens, which is consistent with an electric ceiling at 7 kg. The high-temperature elements are wear parts. The wood-fired variant offers a unique signature and gives up any fine adjustment: a wood fire is not modulated like a valve.
