Documentary reference point: a production attested by one source, with no FAOSTAT series and no ICO membership. Region: Asia.

Japan produces coffee without appearing in the FAOSTAT green coffee series or among the ICO members. This page puts it on the map with the source that attests to it, without inventing an industry for it.

Production is reported by a serious but unofficial source, or by a FAOSTAT series closed long ago.

    History

This reference point has no series: it exists only through the source cited below.

    Today

Okinawa Industrial Technology Center, research report no. 27, 2025: the annual trading volume of Okinawa coffee is about 5 t (figure taken from the website of the Okinawa coffee association, accessed in June 2025), green beans selling for 50,000 to 60,000 yen a kilo; Okinawa is the northern limit of cultivation. A government source cited by a study indicates coffee trees on Chichijima (Ogasawara Islands) planted as early as 1878, not opened. Absent from FAOSTAT.

    • No annual series: impossible to say whether production is rising or falling.
    • The source often describes a single farm or association, not a whole territory.
