Documentary reference point: a production attested by one source, with no FAOSTAT series and no ICO membership. Region: Asia.

Bangladesh produces coffee without appearing in the FAOSTAT series for green coffee or among the members of the ICO. This page places it on the map with the source that attests it, without inventing a sector for it.

Production is reported by a serious but unofficial source, or by a FAOSTAT series closed long ago.

    History

This reference point has no series: it exists only through the source cited below.

    Today

The Financial Express, February 21, 2021, citing the Department of Agricultural Extension and the BARI: national production of 55.75 t on 118.3 ha in 2019-2020, imports of green coffee of 32.5 t covering 95% of demand; in Bandarban district, 473 farmers on 122.9 ha and 56.25 t harvested the previous year, 104,589 plants. The two series do not overlap exactly (Bandarban alone exceeds the national total): different years or scopes, not elucidated. Absent from FAOSTAT.

    Gray areas

    • No annual series: impossible to say whether production is rising or falling.
    • The source often describes a single farm or association, not a whole territory.
